Each
season brings new activities to enjoy on the Sunshine Coast. Tranquility
Bay is centrally located to local events so you are always close
to any festival or celebration. This means you can enjoy all the
Sunshine Coast has to offer during your stay at Tranquility Bay.
Summer is one of the favourite seasons on the Coast because of
the long days that melt one into another. Warm breezes flow through
the forests and the ocean water welcomes you with it's refreshing
coolness. The sun rises early and sets late giving you plenty of
time for all the activities you enjoy: swimming, diving,
kayaking, cycling,
building sandcastles, building friendships and building dreams.
Some Activities include:
- Canada Day celebrations - parades, craft fairs, street dances
Festival of the Written Artsat Rockwood Centre in Sechelt
- Gibsons Sea Cavalcade - celebration of Coastal life
- Kathaumixw International Choral Festival (even years)
- Coast Mission Boats Reunion (odd years)
- Sandcastle Weekend on Texada Island
- Gambier Island Craft Fair
- Halfmoon Bay Country Fair
With the arrival of autumn harvesting begins: apples, exotic mushrooms
and firewood are stored for the coming winter.
Kayaking and diving are still popular during the autumn months
but mountain biking really takes off
with the cooler season. The back roads and trails are suited for
leisurely rides and challenging workouts. You can go all out and
then head for the hot tub at Tranquility Bay to relive your excitement.
Hiking in the woods to discover the
many varieties of forest mushrooms is a coastal tradition in the
fall. The Forest Walkers of the Sunshine Coast offer guided hikes
for all ages on Mount Elphinstone throughout the season.
Autumn events include:
- Sunshine Folkfest in Powell River, an array of folk talent
- Pender Harbour Jazz Festival, many talented jazz musicians
- Sechelt Celebration Days, parade and street festival
- Townsite Heritage Days, Powell River, antiques and fine dining
- Roberts Creek Christmas Craft Fair, get into the spirit
What to do in a rain forest during the winter months? Bundle up
and hike in the misty, mystical forests, grab skis, snowshoes or
a toboggan and seek out the snow. You will experience a real
outback adventure on any of our local mountains.
Winter on the West Coast combines the best of both worlds - the
excitement of snow at higher elevations and the knowledge that at
the end of the day you return to snow free beaches and roads.
Visit artists in their galleries, attend a concert (local musicians
range from folk and country to jazz and opera), dine in the many
fine restaurants, take romantic walks on deserted beaches - there
are many things to do during the winter - and at the end of your
day, soak in our hot tub or relax in your cabin with a roaring fire.
Winter events include:
- Light the Lights Festival, Rockwood Centre, Sechelt
- Carol Ships, multi-lighted ships, all along the Coast
- Sunshine Coast Arts Council Christmas Craft Fair, Sechelt
- New Year's Day Polar Bear Swim, Davis Bay, Sechelt
- Dakota Bowl Winter Carnival, skiing, sliding and snowboarding
- Powell River Music Festival, Evergreen Theatre, Powell River
- Pacific Regional Juried Arts Mosaic, Powell River
The days get longer and spring summons us with warm breezes and
bright sunshine.
The outdoors come alive with colour that the winter months have
given to the forests. The trees, with their new green growth, standing
tall against the blue, blue sky turn the woods into a living canvas.
This is a wonderful time to be in the forest: walking,
hiking, cycling,
sketching or painting.
With the arrival of spring come the many outdoor festivals and
events. Country fairs, community celebrations and music festivals
abound during the springtime.
Spring events include:
